TkZip - Downloading

The distribution archive has a little more in it than just the executable. Unpack the archive in a temporary directory and run TkZip from that directory. TkZip will automatically launch its install dialogue the first time you run it. Read the "Installing TkZip" directions in the Install window, change any directory paths that don't satisfy you, and click the Install button. That's all there is to it. (You can delete everything from the temp directory once you've installed it. Warning: the install dialogue lets you choose not to install the executable. If you choose this option, don't delete TkZip as soon as you've finished installing!)

TkZip will create a TkZip directory in which to store the various bitmaps it uses, and any other miscellaneous goodies it thinks may be useful, like a copy of the README, and the FAQ. A pixmap version of the logo icon that appears in the main window (TkZip01.xpm) will be found in this directory. If you'd like to use it with your window manager or file manager, just copy it to wherever you keep your pixmaps.
You can open the distribution archive with TkZip to test it out - it contains several different types of files, including another archive (see the release notes).

Warning: If you choose to change install destinationsfrom the default locations, do not try to put the TkZip executable in the same directory where you put the things from the Extras file. This will cause the TkZip executable to be deleted when a directory of the same name is unpacked. If you need to install a private copy in your home directory, for example, put the Extras directory (TkZip) in $HOME and the TkZip executable in $HOME/bin.
